The face of nuclear terror has changed since the Cold War, but disaster-medicine expert Irwin Redlener reminds us the threat is still real. He looks at some of history's farcical countermeasures and offers practical advice on how to survive an attack.

Subject: "It is Almost Inevitable That We Will See a Nuclear Detonation in One of Our Major Cities"
That's the quote that sets the audience off. Up until then they were relatively quiet, but after he said those magic words, you can hear yammering in the rank and file. Never have I seen a TED talk where the audience was so rude. One can only surmise it is because they rarely confront the uneasy facts that were being presented to them that evening. That means that even the smartest among us are still, at heart, rather delusional. This is an important talk, presented well. The facts are clearly stated and there is even some humor involved. I recommend it highly.

On top of which, if a "terrorist" weapon is detonated in our cities, it's likely because our own government either let it happen, or made it happen. (http://archive.org/details/TheRealMeaningOfTheOriginalWorldTradeCenterAttack)
